Course
Course 15 credits • MKVN03
The course provides a critical discussion of the concepts of democracy, globalization and cosmopolitanism, in relation to the development of new media and communication technology. We deal with issues concerning ethics in the emerging global media sphere, and what challenges this may entail for established social and cultural norms and ideas. The cosmopolitan ideal for transnational and international relations, that is often reflected in modern theories of globalization, is discussed in relation to the rapid development of the media and the kinds of problems and opportunities this brings about for the cosmopolitan idea. We investigate these areas with a theoretical base in contemporary literature and we approach key concepts and debates from an integrated perspective, inspired by the history of ideas and the philosophy of science.
