Book Launch: "Conviviality in Burgaz: Living, Loving and Fighting on a Diverse Island in Istanbul"

29 november 2024 13:15 till 17:00 Seminarium

You are invited to Deniz Duru’s book launch of "Conviviality in Burgaz: Living, Loving and Fighting on a Diverse Island in Istanbul", which takes place at Lund University, LUX C126 Hörsal, on Friday, November 29, 13:15-17:00.

The monograph bridges anthropology, migration studies, and media and communication/cultural studies in exploring practices and performances on conviviality in Burgaz (Antigoni), one of the Princes’ Islands of Istanbul (Prinkiponissia) as well as exploring their representations of diversity in their media productions.

Prof. Myria Georgiou (the LSE, Department of Media and Communications) and Dr. Erin Cory (Malmö University, School of Arts and Communication) will be the discussants of the book and Emeritus Prof. Oscar Hemer (Malmö University, School of Arts and Communication) will be the moderator of the discussions.

The book launch will be followed by the screening of the documentary “Antigoni, our small island, our life”, directed by Nilufer Uzunoglu (a Burgaz islander documentary maker), who will join the screening and the Q&A session. The session will be moderated by Dr. Petar Mitric (Copenhagen University, Communication Department) and Dr. Anna Mrozewicz (Lund University, Film Studies). This event is funded by Screening Europe: the State of Polycrisis in the European Audiovisual Industry project within the Centre of Modern European Studies at the University of Copenhagen, which promotes collaboration between the Universities of Copenhagen, Lund and Malmö.

The book is published in open access with Palgrave/Springer. Download it at springer.com
