Are you interested in the consequences of media in armed conflicts and the importance of armed conflict for the media, in both historical and contemporary perspectives? The aim of this course is to provide tools to analyse and understand different cultural, social and technical aspects of the relationship between the media and armed conflicts.
Description
The course introduces the subject of Media History, you will learn how to analyse and interpret media content, form and use in a historical perspective. You will study different types of media in armed conflict, in history as well as in the present, and how to relate these to cultural, social and technical change.
You will identify different media expressions, orally and in writing, and be able to assess media critically within relevant scientific aspects.
Course design
The teaching consists of lectures, seminars and group exercises, carried out both in the classroom and at our digital platform Canvas. You will practise your skills in written assignments.

The course is given in our humanities and theology centre, LUX. This offers an exciting campus environment with a vibrant student life. Lund University has one of Sweden’s oldest and largest research libraries, and the library at LUX is one of 26 libraries within this network.
The course is given as a part-time course once a year, during the autumn semester (daytime). The course is a free-standing course for beginners. It can be included in a first or second-cycle degree.
