International Critical Animal Studies conference at Lund University!

Between Thursday 26 to Saturday 28 October, The Lund University Critical Animal Studies Network will be hosting Sweden’s very first international conference in Critical Animal Studies!

Over the course of the three days over 130 scholars and activists from 19 countries across 5 continents will be visiting Lund University for the 5th European Conference for Critical Animal Studies!

Critical Animal Studies is a newly established and rapidly growing academic field merging cross-disciplinary critical research with social justice activism for animal rights.

The conference theme is Nonhuman Animals in Society: exploring new pathways for resistance, change, and accommodation and keynote speakers include Erika Cudworth, Professor of Feminist Animal Studies in the School of Social Sciences at the University of East London, UK, Volker Sommer Professor of Evolutionary Anthropology at UCL, Zipporah Weisberg, Independent Scholar and awardwinning Canadian photojournalist and animal rights activist Jo-Anne McArthur.

Topics of presentations include multispecies ethics and politics, nonhuman animal agency, animals and media, animal studies and critical theory as well as feminist perspectives on human-animal relations.

Apart from the above mentioned presentations, the conference will feature workshops on creative ways to promote social change, a discussion with Photojournalist Julia Lindemalm on her critically acclaimed book Katt People, exhibitions of animal rights art works and lots of good vegan food from local restaurants!
